Previous Years

2007 Switch On WAS A BIG SUCCESS.

CHRISTMAS arrived in Skegness Thursday 29th November 2007,

with the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

Once again, Soundworks - Part of www.lastminuteeventsuk.com supplied the sound and lighting for the event which took place outside the Hildreds Centre.

John Marshall, from Lincs FM, counted down to 7pm when the town was lit with festive lights and snow fell on spectators.

He was joined on stage by Mayor Coun Ken Milner and his wife Deborah, centre manager Pete Roffe, town clerk Tony Cumberworth and his wife Ann and of course the man of the moment, Santa.

A procession along High Street and Lumley Road preceded the switch-on and involved local organisations who dressed up for the occasion.

The dignitaries led the parade followed by Skegness Carnival Committee members, carnival queen Jessica Williams, princess Leanne Hares, rosebud Rebekka Garton, Santa and the Butlins train, 1st Skegness beavers and cubs, 6th Skegness beavers and cubs and the Julie Stevens School of Dance, from Chapel St Leonards, dressed as dwarves - which they will wear when they take part in the pantomime at the Embassy Centre.

Mr Marshall said: "It is always a good night for Skegness and I amazed at how many people turn out.

"The locals show fantastic support to join in and get Christmas started and I enjoy being involved with the local events."

Traders from around Skegness lined Lumley Road and were joined by the Skegness Silver Band who provided festive music to shop to.
